Jake was on his deathbed while his wife, Becky, maintained a steady vigil by his side. As she held his fragile hand, her warm tears ran silently down her face, splashed onto his, and roused him from his slumber. He looked up and his pale lips began to quiver with sound.
"My darling Becky," he whispered.
"Hush, my love," she said. "Go back to sleep Shhh! Don't talk."
But he was insistent. "Becky," he said in his tired voice. "I have to talk. I have something I must confess to you."
"There's nothing to confess," replied the weeping Becky. "It's all right. Everything's all right, go to sleep now."
"No, no. I must die in peace, Becky. I slept with your sister, your best friend and our next door neighbor."
Becky mustered a pained smile and stroked his hand. "Hush now Jake, don't torment yourself. I know all about it," she said. "Why do you think I poisoned you?"
Encouraging Words « Result #3 on Feb 24, 2009, 12:15am »
Someone said that encouragement is simply reminding a person of the "shoulders" he's standing on, wow power leveling, the heritage he's been given. That's what happened when a young man, the son of a star baseball player, was drafted by one of the minor league teams. As hard as he tried, his first season was disappointing, and by midseason he expected to be released any day. The coaches were bewildered by his failure because he possessed all the characteristics of a superb athlete, wow power leveling, but he couldn't seem to incorporate those advantages into a coordinated effort. He seemed to have become disconnected from his potential.
His future seemed darkest one day when he had already struck out his first time at bat. Then he stepped up to the batter's box again and quickly ran up two strikes. The catcher called a time-out and trotted to the pitcher's mound for a conference. While they were busy the umpire, wow power leveling, standing behind the plate, spoke casually to the boy.
Then play resumed, the next pitch was thrown - and the young man knocked it out of the park. That was the turning point.wow power leveling,From then on, he played the game with a new confidence and power that quickly drew the attention of the parent team, wow gold, and he was called up to the majors.
On the day he was leaving for the city, one of his coaches asked him what had caused such a turnaround. The young man replied it was the encouraging remark the umpire had made that day when his baseball career had seemed doomed.
"He told me I reminded him of all the times he had stood behind my dad in the batter's box," the boy explained.wow gold,"He said I was holding the bat just the way Dad had held it. And he told me, 'I can see his genes in you; you have your father's arms.' After that, whenever I swung the bat, wow gold,I just imagined I was using Dad's arms instead of my own."

The Lands « Result #7 on Aug 25, 2007, 9:07pm »
The Ganshe Lands
These are the free lands of Lafder Island. Any wolf is free to roam the land and hunt here, but prey is not common. This is also the location of the prominent breeding grounds of the island. Most loners, if they do not have a preference, head to the plains to howl for acceptance into a pack. Not many wolves can live here long, as prey will not thrive in the severe conditions.
The Lands of Lafder
The lands claimed by the pack of Lafder are vast and wide spread. From the mountains of the north to the plains of the south, nearly all forms of terrain can be found.
The Plains: The plains of Lafder are the main hunting grounds. Deerk, elk, and caribou frequently run through to graze. Conviently located near the river, the spot is ideal for all hunts. Smaller game can also be found here, but the larger prey are more wide spread.
The River: The river of Lafder is a common fishing spot and is always teaming with fresh water. Since it runs from the mountain of the dens, the wolves have easy access to fresh water all year round. The current can be strong in some places, so swimming is not always recommended for young or older wolves.
The Mountains: The mountain range of Lafder is also the location of the dens. The peaks are covered in snow year round and they hold heat well for the dens. The dens, located half way up, can sometimes be hard to locate but the path is well worn from the decades of wolves who've tread the same path.
The Lands of Kirshe
The lands claimed by the pack of Kirshe are on the eastern side of the island. Although mostly rocky terrain, these lands provide the perfect environment for large and small game alike.
The Lake: The only large water body of Lafder lays in the territory of the Kirshe. This deep, clear lake is home to large fish and always ices over during the winter. A popular swimming place for wolves, the Kirsche occasionally find trespassers here, as the water is the perfect temperature year round.
The Plateau: The home of the Kirshe dens, the plateau also doubles as a hunting area. The caverns used as a den are nestled into the edge of the plateau, while herds of elk and the occasional buffalo graze up top. During the winter the plateau becomes barren, and the wolves typically hunt down in the valley.
The Valley: Located right next to the plateau, the large game of the Kirshe lands lay here during the winter and early spring. The hangovers provide shelter and a small, constant moving creek flows through the center from the lake. Bountiful amounts of small game thrive here. Sometimes loners will sneak down and hunt while the Kirshe are away.
The Lands of Masci
The lands claimed by the pack of Masci vary greatly. They have the most successful hunting grounds, but the least inhabitable land otherwise. The widespread range of different terrains make Masci a bountiful, yet harsh pack.
The Meadow: This meadow is the main hunting grounds of the Masci. The elk herds constantly stop to graze. During the spring, every type of ground growing herb is found here, and all types of flowers can be found. The small brook running through provides one of the only sources of water to the area.
The Swamp: The swamp encompasses a vast portion of the Masci lands. The thick, nasty water proves impossible for swimming, fishing, or drinking. Although many water dwelling plants attract small game, this area is usually avoided for fear of crocodile attacks. The swamp surrounds almost all of a miniature peninsula, which serves the pack well.
The Peninsula: The dens of the Masci are located in the heart of the swamp at the tip of the peninsula. The large land mass deters the water dwelling predators, and the pack is well protected by the swamp. Small plants and shrubs will grow here, but mostly weeds and grass appear on this portion of the lands.
The Canyon: The deepest part of the island rests in the Masci lands. This two hundred foot deep canyon proves dangerous to young pups. Little grows in the surrounding area, but the occasional meal is collected from the bottom, as some animals fall off the steep edges. Although rugged and virtually uninhabitable, the canyon bottom is blossoming with life, from lizards to armadillos. Many small prey can be collected down below if you can find a way to the bottom.

Posting Rules « Result #8 on Aug 25, 2007, 9:07pm »
- No liquid time! You can only post in one place at one time, as it is not physically possible to be in two places at once.
- All posts must be at least 4 lines long. No exceptions!
- If you wish to post out of character, you must start with ((OOC: and end with ))
- All posts are in 3rd person, not in 1st.
Ex. of 1st person: (against the rules)
I glanced from the cliff that I stood on down at the wolf below me. As I padded down the cliff, I tripped over a small boulder and tumbled from the top. I smiled sheepishly at the other wolves because of my loud entrance and shrugged.
Ex. of 3rd person: (allowed)
As Karisan glanced from the cliff, he spotted a group of wolves below him. As he padded down the cliff edge, his front left paw snagged on a small boulder, sending him tumbling from the top. He smiled sheepishly at the other wolves, apologizing for his loud entrance, and shrugged.
They both say the same thing, but third person flows better. Post as if you are watching.
- All speech must be bold face and wrapped in proper punctuation (",")
Ex. within rules:
"Don't!" Karisan shrieked as the wolf gently shoved him from the edge. Tumbling down the edge of the ravine, he cried, "I will get you for this! Just mark my words!" His body slammed against the bottom and he croaked, "Ugh..."
Ex. Against the rules:
"Don't!" Karisan shrieked as the wolf gently shoved him from the edge. Tumbling down the edge of the ravine, he cried, "I will get you for this! Just mark my words!" His body slammed against the bottom and he croaked, "Ugh..."
They both say the exact same thing, but the bold makes the speech more noticeable.
- Place all thoughts in italics.
Breaking any rule on this list will result in a 5% warning level. After 3 consecutive offenses, each breakage will give you a 10% warning.

History of Lafder « Result #9 on Aug 25, 2007, 9:06pm »
Over a hundred years ago, the island of Lafder was conncted to the main land and ruled by mankind. Humans and wolves lived together in semi harmony for many years. Many conflicts arose, but they were all sorted out. Then, the humans started arguing. The wolves were not concerned in these affairs, so a great portion migrated to the farthest end of the peninsula where conditions were unfit for human life. The wolves lived here happily for many years. It wasn't until the great human war that everything changed.
Failing to settle their differences, the arguements escalated among the countries. The arguing stopped, and the fighting emerged. Humans fought ferociously for many years, and the wolves were not concerned until a nuclear missile was fired. As the wolves and humans looked on helplessly, it headed straight towards their peninsula. Shattering the edge of the peninsula under its force, a deadly tremor erupted. The force of the earthquake startled the wolves as they hid away, and the peninsula started moving out to sea. The fault from the explosion forced the island of Lafder miles out into the ocean. The only remaining sentient creatures on the land mass were wolves.
The surviving wolves formed together into one pack, the pack we call Lafder. They lived in harmony under the rule of the 'Great One,' known formally by Yariko. The alpha led the pack well, and everything was in harmony until the terrible accident. In a freak attack, Yariko's life was taken by a bandit group of wolves, trying to eliminate their strength, and the group was never seen again. The wolves, stirred up from the lack of leadership, argued ruthlessly about who was to lead their enormous pack. As the arguing grew stronger, the weather grew fiercer and stirred dangerously off the coast of their island.
Shortly after Yariko's death, the terrible hurricane struck the island. Of the dozens of wolves still living, more than half were killed by the forces of the winds. Scattered about the island, the survivors banded together to seek wisdom from the elders. These wolves saw the hurricane as an omen, and they cowered at the thought of anything happening to their group. The succeeding alpha, Harin, was not well taken by the loyal wolves, but he managed to smother the rebellion, as the group had lost many to the hurricane. The small family lived with few incidents for many seasons.
As the pack grew large in numbers, bickering exploded among its members, and the pack split violently into separate groups. The Kirshe formed, and they went to war with Lafder. After the fighting ended, few wolves remain. The occasional wolf washes up on the shore, and some wolves just seem to appear out of nowhere. The two packs remain separate from one another, fearing a conflict similar to that of their ancestors.
As life progresses, the occasional new pack branches off from either Lafder or Kirshe. These renegades claim separate portions of the island, hoping to forge a life of their own and overpower the others.

Ranks « Result #12 on Aug 25, 2007, 9:03pm »
Leadership
Alphas: These are the leading wolves of the pack. They are the only pair that can accept new wolves into a pack, typically organize all the hunts unless designated otherwise, and take care of their pack. They are usually first to eat and are looked upon by the lower ranking wolves as serugant parents. There is only one pair per pack.
Betas: These are the second-in-command wolves. They are in charge of the pack if the alphas are away and typically hold almost as much respect. The betas cannot accept new members, but they CAN organize hunts and they are (typically) second in line to eat. There can be one pair for every 8 members of the pack.
Elders: These are a select group of wolves that are picked by the alpha pair. Usually the oldest members of the pack, they advise the alphas on controversial decisions and help with organization and selections in promotions.
Tier 2
Shaman: This is the healing wolf of the pack. They take care of ill or injured members of the pack. Although usually considered weaker members of the pack, they are thought of as the living force of the pack. There is a limit of two shamans per pack.
Night Watcher: This wolf is the head of the warriors and is in charge of organizing strategies, etc. during war. All plans made by this wolf are run by the leadership, but they have command over the warriors. They also organize night shifts. One per pack.
Guard: These wolves patrol the edges of the lands from time to time to prevent intruders on the lands. They my also be sent to retrieve loners or fight with the warriors. These wolves are as strong as the warriors, but are harder working and higher ranking.
Tier 3
Hunter/Huntress: These are the wolves which catch and kill the food to support the pack. They are higher ranking than subordinates, but not by much. There can be an unlimited amount of hunters and huntresses in a pack.
Warrior: These wolves' duties are to protect the pack during combat between packs and to guard the entrance of the dens during the night. They are the strongest wolves of the pack and can be either gender, but this group is typically composed of strong, young males.
Forager: These wolves are designated to collect materials needed by the shamans. They are agile and young, and they have been taught from a young age the responsibilities accompanying the rank. These wolves are key to the survival of ill and injured wolves.
Tier 4
Pup: These are young wolves that are still under one year old. They cannot receive a rank until close to one and a half years. They are low ranking, but they can get away with much more than older wolves can.
Subordinate: These are wolves that have not received a promotion or do not have anything to help with the pack. These are usually young wolves or new joining loners of a pack.
Tier 5
Omega: This is the lowest ranking wolf in the pack. They are usually the butt of all practical jokes, and the alphas of the pack will not stick up for them. They are the last to eat, so they are more likely to starve than any other wolf.
